Old bulletins and newsletters in Publisher: how to keep them

Many churches, schools and clubs have years of bulletins, newsletters and flyers saved as .pub files. Choosing a new tool for next week's issue is only half the job. The old issues still need to open.

A simple way to keep them

  1. Gather them. Search your computers, shared drives and cloud folders for *.pub, and copy what you find into one folder.
  2. Open the ones you reuse. Drop a file on PubOut and check every page.
  3. Save a PDF of anything you want to keep or print.
  4. Copy the text into whichever tool you use now, so you do not retype it.
  5. Keep the originals. Name the folder clearly so the next volunteer can find it.

Why not just upload them to a converter?

Bulletins and school newsletters can include names, phone numbers, prayer requests or pupils' details. With PubOut, your browser reads the file on your own computer, and the tool does not upload its contents or its name.

Good to know

The free tool opens one file at a time. Files from Publisher 97 or earlier cannot be read yet. No converter is perfect, so check anything that matters.
